As you may have noticed, Coastal Chick Media has a new logo and tagline. We have had some changes here as a consulting company so it seemed like the right time for a new logo. We are now collaborating with a team of talented women who specialize in Social Media, PR and Design. With their help, we can now offer a wider range of services, which I believe will benefit our clients and company. Change can be stressful but ultimately is a great thing.
Helping clients find their voice is one of my favorite things. Working closely with clients we help define their goals, potential customers and vision. Our first visual representation of the brand takes shape as a logo and tagline.
LOGO: What is a great logo? Personally I feel a great logo grabs my attention, but not necessarily in a bold way. It can be soothing, visually pleasing, representative of the brand or just plain fun. Logos are the visual snapshot of a brand and appreciated by people with a variety of interests and tastes.
When designing a logo I try to remember a few simple rules:
- Functional – can your logo be used on letter head, social media and a business card? My friend and designer Patti pointed out the easiest way to determine a logo’s function is to design it in black and white first. If you love it, and it can be used across different types of media, you have done a great job.
- Unique – This can be the name, illustration, or a play on words. For Coastal Chick Media I played off “chick” with the small black bird. It’s easy to remember once you see it. A friend said, “It gives me a raven feel”, which was fine with me. I have never underestimated the abilities of a raven.
- Representative – Make sure your logo represents your brand. I took some liberties with this part of my design. Does a logo entirely in black, tan and white with a bird represent Coastal Chick Media? I think it does. My consulting company is run by me, a woman. I collaborate with other local business owners who are all women. My logo is feminine by it’s design and illustration but strong it’s use of coloring. CCM is here to help clients find their voice by offering support and consulting. Our business is behind the scenes and our clients take center stage. With that in mind I chose a color palette and design that was subtle and soothing.

TAGLINE: A tagline is a concisely written version of your brand. Some examples of memorable taglines are: “Bring Good Things to Life” from GE, “Think Different” from Apple and “The King of Beers” from Budweiser. Looking for more info on a good tagline? In ten words our tagline tells potential customers what we can offer. CCM is here to help define your voice, how you will be represented in media be it social or visual.
I am sure I will tweak this logo here and there. Darken a line, change sizing and maybe alter spacing. Change is a good thing.
